The expedition
Overview
A journey that always keeps you in touch with the mountains. Leaving Rishikesh, we ride the winding Ganga and Alaknanda valleys of the Garhwal Himalayas — past Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet to form the sacred Ganga — and cross into the green ranges of Kumaon: Kausani’s famous Himalayan views, the old hill town of Almora (with a rest day), Ranikhet, the quiet hamlet of Pangot near Nainital, and the forests of Jim Corbett, before returning to Rishikesh.
Tour leader: a Hindi- and English-speaking motorcycle tour leader supervises the trip — a seasoned rider and traveller, an expert on the destination and an integral part of your experience and the group dynamic, keeping the adventure safe and unforgettable.
Accommodation — Standard: simple accommodation with hot showers, individual sanitary facilities, and a touch of charm where possible.
Level — Intermediate: we ride mainly on small secondary roads, with stages of 4–6 hours repeated every day, so good physical fitness is a must. Passages on rolling tracks can be frequent, but most of the riding is on tarmac and there is no off-road riding on this journey.
Meal plan — Half board: breakfast and dinner; depending on the itinerary, lunch is at your own expense.
Important: this trip includes a few long stages. First aid and transfer to the nearest medical centre are provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are rarely available. Phone coverage is limited and satellite phones are restricted, so contacting emergency services can be difficult. As on any mountain route, road quality and difficulty depend heavily on current and recent weather.
