The expedition

Overview

This expedition follows the Kali river north from the Kumaon foothills to Dharchula and into the Vyas valley — a high, remote corner of Uttarakhand on the borders of Nepal and Tibet.

The reward is a pair of extraordinary mountains: Om Parvat, where snow settles in a pattern resembling the sacred syllable, and Adi Kailash, reflected in the waters of Parvati Kund.

Expect a mix of good tarmac in the foothills, narrow mountain roads, and rough, unpaved sections in the upper valley. Altitude, weather and permits shape every day of this route.
